A Hot Day, A Still Heart

A Hot Day, A Still Heart

The sun was generous today, bold and blazing, high above the skyline. The kind of heat that makes you slow down without guilt. I found myself beneath the canvas shade of a quiet café by the marina, coffee in hand, watching the yachts sway gently on the water like they had nowhere to be.

There’s something about water, how it invites you to be soft. Not just in your body, but in your thinking. The yachts, with their polished decks and elegant stillness, reminded me of what it feels like to wait without urgency. There was no rush here. Just presence.

The café was perfect: white umbrellas, wicker chairs, a faint rhythm of jazz blending with the breeze. And silence, the kind of silence that speaks to women like us. Not emptiness, but space. Space to think. To exhale. To listen inward.

We often carry a lot, mentally, emotionally, energetically. But sitting here, wrapped in warmth and shade, something shifted. I felt clarity creeping in like the sun rising slowly over the water. Thoughts I had shelved came forward gently. Feelings I hadn’t tended to whispered instead of screamed.

In the absence of noise, I heard myself. And I remembered: stillness isn’t passive. It’s a decision. A reclamation. So here I am, just a woman, with salty air on her skin and sunlight licking the tips of her hair, watching life glide by in sails and shadows. And I want to say this, to you reading:

When you slow down enough to listen, your truth finds its way home.

Let yourself sit under shade. Let the day be hot and unhurried. Let the water teach you about flow and faith. You don’t always have to move to move forward.

This moment, this stillness, is its own kind of power.
