Her Voice, Her Pause: What the Silence Teaches Us

There is something quietly powerful about pressing pause. About stepping away from the emails, the deadlines, the endless to-do lists, and listening to what rises in the silence. This photo from my friend Crissy, taken while she was taking a break in the Maldives, speaks volumes. The stillness, the space, the sea – all of it invites us to breathe, to soften, and to reconnect.

As women, especially as freelancers, entrepreneurs, caregivers, and builders of homes and communities, we often live in a constant state of doing. Give, do, lead, manage, repeat. Our voice is used constantly to guide others, but rarely do we get the chance to listen to ourselves.

But something shifts when we pause. Whether it is a week on an island or just an hour with a notebook and no phone, we begin to hear ourselves again. Not the version that performs or produces. The real voice. The one asking questions like: Is this still what I want? Am I tired? What part of me have I put on mute?

Taking a break is not an escape. It is a form of self-respect. It is a recalibration. It is a way of saying: my presence matters, not just my productivity.

Crissy’s photo is a reminder and an invitation. Not just to dream of palm trees and turquoise waters, although that never hurts, but to create intentional space for your inner voice to rise. Because in those quiet moments, we do not lose ourselves. We find ourselves again.

So today, pause if you can. Even for a moment. And ask yourself, what is my voice trying to tell me?
