The Unspoken Nourishment of Women’s Voice

There is something about this image that draws you in. A healthy, vibrant vegetarian plate, shared by my friend Crissy while on a peaceful break in the Maldives. Look closely, not just at the colors and textures of the food, but at what the image evokes. Simplicity. Care. Presence. It is a quiet offering, and yet it speaks volumes.

It made me think about the conversations we hold as women. Or more often, the ones we carry quietly.

We are taught to value the voice that is loud, clear, and confident. But there is another kind of voice, one that lives in our silences, in our hesitations, and in the metaphors we use when we are not quite ready to say something out loud. These moments are not empty. They are full of meaning if we choose to listen differently.

When we truly pay attention, we begin to hear the real stories. A pause before answering. A shift in tone. A smile that covers a sigh. These are not weak signals. They are deep truths speaking in subtle ways. And as women, we have long learned to layer what we say with what we cannot say.

Crissy’s photo reminded me that nourishment is not only what we put on our plates, it is also how we feed our relationships and our self-awareness. Listening with presence, without the need to fill every space with words, is a kind of nourishment too.

So next time you sit across from someone, or even look in the mirror, pause. Listen to what is not being said. That is where voice begins. And often, that is where healing begins too.

Share your experience, and I am listening.
